Summer Film 2016
I just
wanted to say hi and welcome folks to the Summer Film classes.
Many of
you have taken the summer film classes before.
Many are new.
I wanted
to tell you what to expect and also give the students some creative homework to
do before coming to the class on Monday.
The class
is from 9am to 3pm Mon-Friday.
You can
drive on Hornet Road, and take a left into the MPAC parking area following the
arrows on the road. It will get you
right in front of the Marshall Family Performing Arts Center (MPAC). My assistant Alex Raphael or I will be there
to greet you the first day. You will
walk into the MPAC and up the main staircase to the film room on your
right. It’s pretty easy. The building is large but there are really
only a few spaces to enter. If you haven’t
seen the new film room, I look forward to showing you.
The basic
set up of the week is as follows:
Monday –
Dream and write.
Tuesday –
Plan shots and start shooting.
Wednesday
– All day production shooting.
Thursday –
Wrap shooting and edit.
Friday –
Finish films and get them online.
It is
exciting to be able to get a film done in five days. To do that we need to do some of the dreaming
now. So I am asking all of the students
to start making lists of two things: characters that they want to see in a film
they make, and the kind of story they want to tell. So maybe you keep thinking about a dapper
fellow in a fancy suit with a cane and clicky shoes. And maybe you are a big
fan of action martial arts films and you want to try to make one of those. That would be a character and a kind of film.
I want each student to make lists of these that are jumping out to them
now. The more specific the better. If you have stories coming together then
bring them, that is great! Please bring
lists of both of these things. Have fun
this week thinking of them. My advanced
film students are always looking out and thinking of things like this.
The only
things the students need to bring are a sack lunch, a water bottle we can refill,
and their lists of characters, kinds of stories, and any stories or scripts
they have. I will supply all of the
filmmaking materials. We should be
indoors most of the day Monday, and maybe all week, using the great space. But we may be outside if their productions
dictate so please dress for muggy/sunny weather with bug spray and sunscreen if
wanted.
If you
have any questions please email me at doylec@greenhill.org
or call me at 214-516-3571. I will be posting on the summer blog - http://doylesummerfilm.blogspot.com/.
Go team!
