Today we were wrapping up. I talked about the important part of painting, which is not "getting" what you see, since when you return from painting you don't have the landscape there to show people, all you have is your work. We talked about what to do with this exercise of landscape painting. We looked at the work of Charles Burchfield. The group had three options today: they could work on unfinished pieces, thinking about keeping the painting fresh and imaginative, they could look at images of Texas butterflies that I had and make compositions using these images with impressions they had from the places we went this week, and finally they could paint the still life made from objects we had all been collecting from our trips this week. We had a great week of painting and camaraderie!
