Stopmotion Class, Day 1

We had a great day in Stopmotion Class today.
We talked about options for materials.  We watched lots of examples.
We took photographs of Sudeep and make a quick animation using these cut out photographs.
I asked the students to work in groups to hone our ideas.
We ended up splitting in to two groups, 4 boys and 4 girls.
They have each written their stories.
I worked tonight to get all of their materials together.
Tuesday morning we begin animation in earnest.
I am very excited to see them begin their work.

May is Here!

I saw the Queen Anne's Lace out this morning for the first time this season.  This is always a harbinger for the beginning of the Summer Classes!  There are still some spots for both the Tradition Film Class and the Stopmotion Film Class.
Traditional Film June 10-14 - 9am-3pm - $500
Stopmotion Film June 17-21 - 9am-3pm - $500
All you need to bring is a sack lunch Mon-Thurs for each camp.
We have a pizza party on Friday.
Both classes are at our home on White Rock Lake.
We use the lake as a great location for our films.
Both camps use professional supplies to make narrative films.
It looks like last summer's stopmotion film will be in the Singapore International Youth Film Festival.
More info on that soon.
If you have any questions please call and leave a message at home at 214-327-7636, or on my cell at 214-516-3571.
Or email me at doylesummerfilm@gmail.com

SxSW and ISAS Success!

We had 7 of the 22 films from the state at the big SxSW Film Festival in Austin a month ago.  They had us all get on stage and be recognized.  This was a big deal because we had 7 as well last year.  We won it last year.  And I don't think any school had more than 1 film in the festival.
The kids were interviewed for Austin Radio Station for month long weekly show about their films.
Then we went to ISAS.  They set up 2 screens for us.  The small space that everyone else used was full 2 hours before our screening.  The other space had almost all of the rest of the ISAS participants in attendance.
The camaraderie of the film kids is amazing.  And a lot of it starts in Middle School.

The Summer Classes are filling up but there is still space.  The traditional filmmaking class is June 10-14th.  The stopmotion film class is June 17-21.  Both class are $500 each, and each class goes from 9am to 3pm at our home on White Rock Lake.  If you would like to attend, please contact me at doylesummerfilm@gmail.com or at home 214-327-7636 or cell 214-516-3571.  I just need a parent to tell me that the child is interested and I will sign them up.  This blog contains info from the last 6 years class so page through and see lots of stuff.

Summer 2013 Is Here!

Ok Film Fans, It's time to start planning for Mr. Doyle's Summer Film Camps for 2013.  We have had another great year.  We are again the most recognized film program in Texas.  After winning South by Southwest last year, we again have 1/3 of the films from the state in SxSW including two Stopmotion films!  Woooooooooo!  We won 23 festivals passes to SxSW so a large group of students and their families are heading to Austin next week.  I am just going to post dates and times here now but in the next few days I will post links to all of the nine films we have gotten into festivals this year.

Ok dates and times.  The traditional Short Film camp will be June 10th-14th.  That's Monday-Friday from 9 am to 3pm.  The Stopmotion Animation Film camp will be the next week June 17th-21st also from 9 am to 3pm.

This site is a blog, so you can page back and see past pages that all have lots of info and links to past films.  The camps will operate the same as we have the last few years.  The cost is the same as it was the first year, $500 per camp.  The camps are held at my home on the east side of White Rock Lake.  We get much more done in a short time than we do in a normal trimester.

Here is the link to one of the posts from last summer with lots of similar info.  link

To reserve a spot for your child or children just email me at doylesummerfilm@gmail.com, call or text me on my mobile at 214-516-3571, or call me at home at 214-327-7636.  Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions.  The students are usually rising 7th-9th graders, but last year I had a 6th grader and a 10th and 11th grader.  We all work appropriately as a large group.  We have a great time.  Many of our summer films have gotten into elite film festivals.  Last year's films have been entered into several film festivals and we are waiting to hear.  Both classes filled up last year so let me know.

Thank you all and I look forward to making some great films.
