Stopmotion Day 5

We had a great week!
Today we did final visual editing, recorded lots of little background sounds, edited in those background sounds, and signed off on the final edit.
Our film Potty Mouth can be found here.
There are also silly bloopers that we made over the week here.
We had a pizza party, and then ate ice cream sundaes.
Thank you all for a great class.
See you all next summer.

Stopmotion Day 3

We had a productive day of animation.
This is what we have been doing so far:
1. We threw out ideas as a group and came up with options.
2. After deciding on a basic story, we wrote a script and casted actors.
3. Then we shot video of the actors saying their lines.  We did this three times because our first test was only sound and that didn't allow us to see mouth movements and the first video didn't sound right not being recorded in the right space. (that's why we do tests)
4. We edited the whole film with the live action acting parts and the parts we knew we wanted to animate all together.
5. Then we exported just the parts assigned to each object, i.e. the compact, the lip gloss, the hair iron, etc.
6. Since each actor had their own group of scenes all put together, we then put these video files into the animation software.
7. On to the bathroom space.  We hooked the camera up to the computer, got the lights set up, and animated our dialog person by person, while watching our mouths from our original video.  (pretty cool)
8. We then exported each finished group one at a time and added them to our film.  (once again thank you for tests, the export process took a while)
9. Thursday and Friday we will be finishing animation furiously and adding sound effects and background sounds.
We are having a great time.

Stopmotion Day 2

We had a great day.  Did another test animation.  The link is here.  We finished our script, filmed all of our scenes for its audio, and shot the non animation scenes.  We also did some serious make up for the actor.

Stopmotion Day 1

We had a good day today.  We have the spark of an idea for the big project.  We watched lots of different short stopmotion films.  We did some test recordings and made a short stopmotion test.  You can see that here.  It is silly but the flow of stopmotion is becoming clear.

2 Days!

Film camp is almost here.  The light has been beautiful the last few days.  The lake is looking great.  Students make sure that you are checking you email.  Everyone should be thinking about ideas.  If you have some kind of props or costumes bring them on Monday.  Who knows what story we will make from them.  There is a chance of rain this week.  First, I will believe it when I see it.  Second, we've had rain before and still made very cool films.  Weather doesn't hinder us a bit.  Wear appropriate clothing for the weather though.  See you all at 9am on Monday.

4 Days Until Film Camp Starts

Make sure that you are thinking about ideas, costumes, stories, objects, and anything that might get us going.  Go ahead and bring them on Monday.  Bring or wear sunscreen.  We won't be out much on Monday but it's good to have.  Bring a sack lunch.  Prepare for a great time.

2 Weeks Until Camps Start!

There is a lot going on this week.  We are showing films at the Studio Movie Grill tonight.
We are sending off films to more festivals.  And we are getting ready for camps starting in less than 2 weeks.

There are still a few spots left in the Stopmotion camp from June 18-22.  Look at the older blogs for more information.

Here is a link to CaNnibal.  It is a short film we made 3rd trimester.  If this looks intriguing then maybe think about signing up for the Stopmotion class.

Watch CaNnibal

All of the camp take place in my home: 9257 Biscayne Blvd., Dallas, 75218.  Look on map sites for directions, and I will post some in the coming days.

The stopmotion class is June 18-22, the week after the traditional film class.

Also we got a great invitation from the Studio Movie Grill.  On May 29th we will have an all Greenhill Video screening, including last summer's film and SxSW film The Bench.

Greenhill Film Wins SxSW

It was amazing having 7 of the 23 films from the state at the SxSW film festival and we WON! with Boom.  It was great seeing last summer's film The Bench in this great company.  The Bench was also asked to be part of the Sante Fe Independent Film Festival.  Other films have been asked to be part of the Dallas International Film Festival, the Los Angeles Film Festival and the Dallas Videofest.  It's just crazy to think about all of these great accolades and it all starts with our team working together.  I am very excited for this summer.

The first session is June 11-15th.  This is the traditional filmmaking group project.  It looks like this camp is full.  I have started a waiting list.  The camp goes from 9-3pm.  We meet at our house on the east side of White Rock Lake right at 9am and start rolling from there.  I ask the kids to bring a lunch which we will eat as a group while planning times.  I will provide water, iced tea, and lemonade.  I will send a map soon.  We are already beginning discussions for this year's film story.  The cost is $500 per student.  In the past I have asked for half to hold a spot, but just bringing a check on the first day of camp is great.

The second session is June 18-22nd.  This is the stopmotion film camp.  I am very excited for this session.  I have big ideas.  It is not filled yet, so if you are interested please consider this camp.  I think it will be fantastic.  Same times and costs for this camp.

I am emailing the families who have contacted me about the camp with the spots they have reserved or are on the waiting list for.  If you have any questions or comments please don't hesitate to call me at 214-516-3571(cell), 214-327-7636(home), or email me at doylesummerfilm@gmail.com.

Thank you all

Summer 2012 Film Camps!

Well it's time to start planning for the summer of 2012. I am very excited. The big news is that for two years in a row we have a film from last summer's camp make it into the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin! This is one of the biggest film festivals in the nation, and we compete against all Texas filmmakers. The Bench will be screening with six other Greenhill films on March 10th. Almost 1/3 of the films from the state came from Greenhill.
Alrighty then. This is a blog, so the newest information is the top post. So you can scroll down the page and click on older posts to see the last few years of the film and painting camps.
This year we are trying something new again. The First session is June 11-15. This will be the traditional filmmaking camp from 9am to 3pm. The Second session is June 18-22. I am very excited about this session. The second session will produce a stopmotion film. We will write a story and record sound the first day. Then we will set up state of the art software and cameras and shoot a stopmotion film over the week. Think Fantastic Mr. Fox or Wallace and Gromit. I think this session has the potential to make a spectacular film. This session will meet from 9am to 3pm as well. All of the camps take place at my home on White Rock Lake. The cost of each session is $500. I will add much more specific information. This is just to help with summer plans. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to email me at doylesummerfilm@gmail.com or call my cell at 214-516-3571. The classes will fill up so contact me to reserve a spot. Thank you.
