5th Day

We had a great week. We made it through a biblical downpour. We worked together all day for a week in a small house and we all stayed friends. It was a joy to be part of this, and I couldn't have asked for a better group of citizens. Here is the first small film. We have our main project and a couple of other smaller ones coming as well. I will be posting them over the next weeks so look back on the blog from time to time.

4th Day

Weather wasn't our friend today. But we got almost all of the rest of the production of our larger project done, and we shot some other short bits. We edited the opening montage of the larger film and it looks pretty neat. We are looking forward to finishing the production in the morning and editing in the afternoon tomorrow.

3rd Day

Wednesday was a day of a whole lotta production. Tired children will be at home this evening. We shot all day outside, working on the bigger production. Thursday finds us producing in the morning and editing in the afternoon. We did the final music notes, touch ups, and credits today on Code Eleven, the first short.

2nd Day

We shot a short film today called "Code Eleven".
Many locations and outfits.
Almost edited and we had a great time making it.
MSVP graduates commented on how we got more done today than in a trimester in the middle school class.
Tomorrow we will start production on our bigger project.
We wrote the script using the screenwriting software called Final Draft.
The group said that our script looked like a "real script".
That's because it is a real script.
They are all doing a great job.

1st Day

I think everyone had a great day. Everyone quickly became comfortable and the ideas for projects flowed. We will shoot a short and funny film tomorrow that came up while scouting locations today starring Brian and Matt. Then we will finalize the direction for the larger project. We will start production on this Wednesday. It was great to get this all rolling.

2 days!

I am assuming all is good and everybody but KS is good for Monday at 9.
Home phone is 214-327-7636.
If there are any problems just let me know.
One thing we haven't directly talked about is that we will be going on foot to locations.
My van isn't big enough for the group and part of the adventure of the group is being so close to the lake that we just walk to locations. I just wanted to let everyone know that the group won't be in any automobiles.

3 Days

Driving directions. I have posted a map on a previous day. The way I get home from school is to get on the Tollway going south. Exit Northwest Highway. Go East (left) on NWHY. Past Abrams, Skillman, when you see White Rock on your right and you go over the lake the next light is Buckner. Take a Right. You will see the light Northcliff. 3 streets past that is Biscayne Blvd. Take a right on Biscayne. House on the Right 9257 Biscayne.

Things to bring

Ok so bring a sack lunch Monday through Thursday.
I will buy pizza Friday if that is good for everyone.
I will also have water, iced tea, and lemonade every day.
Wear clothes that are comfortable and good for being outdoors in the summer.
Wear and bring sunscreen
I will have bug spray if you want, but it hasn't been so bad at the lake the last couple of days.
Hat and sunglasses are good if you like.
Monday we will finish planning and make lists of props and costumes that we will need for production on Tuesday.
I am happy with all of the talk that has been going on within the group.
Keep ideas very open at this time.
We will walk around and take pictures on Monday and lock down the script.

Very Happy With The Planning

If you are in the middle of the email planning you know what I am talking about. Lots of great ideas.
If not, and you want to be, just email me at doylesummerfilm@gmail.com and get in the camp.
We are just starting to get weather forecasts into next week.
Looks like potential rain Mon night into Tues but other than that clear.
I know it is early but I am happy to not see that we are in for a week of deluges.
More logistics for campers.
My family does have pets. They will be sequestered. My daughters have allergies, so we are sympathetic to that, and work to make the house have as little dander as possible.
But you may want to take some allergy meds or let me know.
Also as we get closer let me know about any medical needs so I can prepare and get everything ready.
I am very excited to get this rolling!

The Tuesday Before We Start

I will be adding info almost every night so keep checking this blog.
If you are still interested in being part of the camp please email me at doylesummerfilm@gmail.com
Ok here are some logistical things:
Camp is from 9-3, this is flexible so let me know.
Dates are This Monday the 8th through Friday the 12th.
Bring a sack lunch. I will make lemonade and iced tea every day.
I will buy pizza or something that the group decides on Friday.
Wear outside clothes and sunscreen.
Also a hat and sunglasses if you wish.
The goal is to scout the area the first day and write the script.
If the weather cooperates we will shoot the film outside using the beautiful and exciting White Rock setting.
I have plans if the weather gets stormy.
My house is 9257 Biscayne Blvd. 75218 on the east side of White Rock.
Here is the google map.
I will add driving directions later in the week.
If you have other questions please email or call me at home 214-327-7636.
The light around the lake is great now.
The wildflowers and birds are amazing.
I am very excited about the camp.

Camp is less than 4 weeks away!

Hola campers!
We are getting close and I am very excited.
If you are interested in being with us in June then deposit checks should be coming in to fill spots.
If there are any problems or questions please feel free to call me at home 214-327-7636 or email me at doylesummerfilm@gmail.com.
We have a great group already.
We are in the middle of getting the MS video edited together for our end of year showing.
When that is done I will be emailing the group to start talking about locations where we can shoot, props that we have at our disposal, and topics for our script. My goal is to have the script written before we get together on the 8th via email conversation with the group.
The lake is looking beautiful.
The above picture is of a scissor tail flycatcher that I saw at the lake today.

Film Kids at SxSW

****This is a blog so information flows from new to old. More pertinent info may be below or email me at doylesummerfilm@gmail.com .

First of all it has been a beautiful week at the lake. Pelicans swooping over head. Ducks all over the place. Great light.
And while we were enjoying this, two of the AVP (advanced video production) students were showing off their films at the South by Southwest film festival in Austin. I stress teamwork every day in my classes. And after that we talk about voice, planning, production, and exhibition. These guys are great examples of this, and as a reward they are getting to see great films by other young filmmakers and meet professionals from all over the country.

More Information

***Just a reminder that this is a blog, so the first post you see on the site is the newest. To get previous information scroll down the page or use the map on the right side.

Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest. So far we have a couple of people who have reserved spots, and many emails asking about the camp. My current idea for the class is that when all of the people who are going to attend is decided, we will begin planning our first project as a group via email. Hopefully this will give us a major head start to classes that only meet on their first day, and we will have the gift of the script really coming from the kids rather than being decided by me. I have also been working with a new stop-motion software, so if we have a weather day or a break we can be working on a claymation project. Similar to the AVP classes, the stories, voices, and films made this summer will be a direct reflection of the group's personalities. To answer a question that was raised, the total cost of the class is $500. I am asking for $250 of that to reserve a spot. Please feel free to email me at doylesummerfilm@gmail.com, or call me at home at 214-327-7636. Thank you - Mr. Doyle

Welcome!

Hello film fans!
We are going to do something that students have been asking to do for a while.
In my Middle School and Upper School film classes we lament short classes, lack of concentrated time, and interesting filming locations. So this summer I am going to host a summer film class from my home. I live on the east side of White Rock Lake right next to the Bath House Cultural Center. We will meet at my house every morning at 9 and work together until 3:00 for five days, the week of June 8th to the 12th, 2009. As a group we will write, produce, direct, shoot, and edit a larger project and several smaller ones. We will shoot in HD and edit with Final Cut Pro. We will use that concentrated time to get lots of work done. We will use the backdrop of White Rock Lake as our stage. The class is open to 2009-10’s 7th through 9th graders. If you will be in 7th or 8th grade, this class will give you a leg up for Greenhill’s MS Video Production, and if you are a rising 9th grader, the class will be a place to show off your MS skills and prepare for Beginning and Advanced Video Production in the Upper School. Class size will be limited. For the class to materialize, I need at least eight students to sign up. The cost will be $500. I am asking for $250 to reserve a spot. You can contact me at doylesummerfilm@gmail.com, or at my home at 214-327-7636. I will be updating this blog often. We will post pictures of the class and links to uploaded videos when the class is in session. Much more information will follow.
Thank you,
Corbin Doyle
